Getting Your Auto Glass Repaired

When a pop bottle flew off of a freeway overpass and smashed into my car window, I knew that I had a problem. I was already late to work, and I had no idea how I was going to have time to get the damage repaired. Fortunately, a friend of mine told me about a place that offered mobile windshield repair. They came out the same day, worked on my car, and replaced the window--all while I sat at my desk and helped clients. It was really amazing to have their help, and I couldn't have done it without them. This blog is all about mobile windshield repair.

Preserving The Glass On The Windshield Of Your Car

Blog

The glass on the windshield of your car is important, but you might not think about it very much as long as you can see through it. However, chips and cracks can be dangerous, as they can interfere with your vision while you're driving on the road. Use these suggestions to preserve your car's windshield so you can be on the street safely.

Prevent Rapid Changes in Temperature

Your car's windshield has to deal with a wide variety of temperatures, especially if you live in an area that goes from freezing temperatures in the winter to blistering hot temperatures in the summer. This can cause stress cracks in the glass, particularly if the temperatures change rapidly.

That is why it's a bad idea to pour boiling water onto a frozen windshield. That may seem like a great idea for defrosting your windshield, but the shock of the boiling water on a windshield that is very cold could have a bad effect on the glass. Instead, warm the car slowly and then use safer de-icing techniques.

Clean Wiper Blades

You might clean your windshield by spritzing some windshield wiper fluid onto the glass and running the wiper blades over the windshield a few times. However, how often do you clean the blades themselves? When you don't clean the wiper blades, the dust and other debris they collect can scratch your windshield if you aren't careful.

To make sure that doesn't happen, wipe the blades with a damp microfiber cloth periodically.

Take Care of Small Chips and Dings

It is easy to ignore tiny dings and chips on the windshield, but it is important to remember that if there are rapid temperature changes or changes in the humidity level, those tiny chips and dings can deepen and turn into cracks.

If you aren't able to get repairs immediately, take a clear piece of packing tape and cover the chip or ding. When you do this, you stop dust and debris from being able to settle into it and cause more trouble.

Use the Appropriate Windshield Wipers

If you're like a lot of people, you do not realize that different wiper blades are appropriate at different times in the calendar. Sitting in the hot sun, if you use the wrong blades, the rubber may soften and become less effective. Ensure that when you purchase new blades that you look for ones that are right for the season.

The tips above can help you to care for your windshield. If you do end up with a crack or ding, contact a windshield repair service to have it handled right away. Visit http://www.autoglassrepairandreplace.com/ for more information.
